Flamefest Champions 2008

The 95s went through the weekend undefeated to come out as the Champions of Flamefest 2008. With a record of 2-0-1 in bracket play they were the winners of their bracket.

Playing with a very small roster, the girls showed their heart when they had to play down a man at 10 players throughout most of the second half of their first bracket game. Morgan sprained her wrist just after the start of the second half. Even with just 10 girls, they still prevailed over FC Dallas Silver with a score of 2-0. Saturday morning brought a little relief when two more players were able to participate, giving them 1 sub considering Friday nights injury. They took on a big Lubbock Lonestars Red team, and were able to pull off another 2-0 victory.

Saturday afternoon saw a game with an old nemesis, Solar Blue. They have always been a tough team for us, and Saturday was no different. The 95s were able to hold on for a tie 1-1. Solar Blue needed a 3-0 victory against Lubbock in their third bracket game to pull out a win in the bracket. Lubbock scored late in the second half to prevent them from winning the bracket on tie-breakers with us. This put the 95s into the Semi-Finals to play the wild card team, Texas FC 95s, on Sunday morning.

Texas FC was a tough match, but the 95s with no subs, pulled out a 2-1 victory to go to the Championship game.A very hard fought match on both sides.

2PM Sunday, brought Solar 96, a division I Lake Highlands team to the pitch to challenge our girls, but they were no match for our girls. The 95s pulled off a stellar 2-0 victory to win the tournament.

Congratulations to the girls and to Coach Young, Coach Gil, and Coach Ray for a great tournament.

After a tie with Solar Gold in the first bracket match, the girls came back on Saturday to beat the Texas Spirit North 96 girls for the second time. This time they won with a clean 1-0 victory in regulation. They then tied FC Dallas Blue for a 1-0-2 record in bracket play. This was enough to give them the wildcard berth in the Semi-Finals, where they prevailed over Texas Spirit White by a score of 1-0.The 96 girls took it all the way to the Championship match. There, they took Solar Gold 96 into the second overtime period before they finally gave up a goal for the loss. They played great and should be very proud of themselves.
